As of the 20th of this month, the Gaza conflict has lasted for half a year. The long war has already dealt a fatal blow to the lives of local people. An average of about 130 people have been killed every day in Gaza over the past 10 months. The scale of the destruction of homes, hospitals, schools, and places of worship by the Israeli army is deeply shocking. According to the latest estimate by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 14,000 children have reportedly lost their lives, with thousands more injured. There are no safe spaces left. To help these vulnerable children and families, many organizations and enterprises make donations to UNICEF, which will be a vital aid and support to those affected by the conflict. FridayParts is such an enterprise, helping more children.

Total Collapse of the Social System
Nearly 1 Million Children are Losing Their Home
Around 1.9 million people in the Gaza Strip are estimated to have been internally displaced and half of them children. Families have to constantly move to escape the war. With no proper shelters, most of them just live on roads or streets, under construction buildings. They continue to live in the shadow of the horror of war, and this kind of homeless life will leave irreparable growth trauma for developing children.
Children are Under Poor Hygiene Conditions
The ongoing war brings catastrophic damage to infrastructure including many WASH facilities. Children have to collect water from destroyed wells and drink highly contaminated liquid thus there is no other option, not to mention clean toilets and washing facilities. Children are particularly vulnerable, facing heightened risks of dehydration, diarrhea, disease, and malnutrition.
Children’s Education Has Come to a Complete Halt
Since October 7, none of Gaza’s 625,000 students have been able to safely receive an education. About 90% of Gaza’s school buildings are being used as shelters for internally displaced persons or have suffered varying degrees of damage.
UNICEF is in Action
Actively Seeking Shelter for Children
In response to worsening sanitation conditions for internally displaced persons in overcrowded shelters, UNICEF is collaborating with partners to build sanitation facilities and has set up water points in settlements for displaced individuals in Khan Younis.
Support Hygiene and Health System
UNICEF is actively providing critical water and sanitation services, such as transporting water, distributing bottled water, and supplying hygiene kits along with essentials like chlorine tablets and soap to shelters. Besides, they have an effort to address sewage overflows, waste management, and the establishment of emergency latrines. Medically, UNICEF is equipping hospitals with necessary supplies, including incubators and newborn care kits, and supports health services through partners, such as mobile teams for primary care, postnatal check-ups, and immunizations for children.
Launch of Emergency Education Project
UNICEF collaborates with partners to facilitate recreational programs and emergency educational initiatives that promote the well-being of children. This support has successfully benefited over 240,000 students and educators, ensuring continuity in learning and awareness even amidst challenging conditions.
