Sudan is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis. Heavy fighting erupted in Khartoum in April 2023 and swiftly spread nationwide. Over a year later, the conflict endangers the health and well-being of 24 million children, worsening the plight of already vulnerable families. In this context, FridayParts made donations to UNICEF with $500 in July on behalf of customers, thanking them for their support, and hoping to aid the suffering children.

Humanitarian Catastrophe
Before the heavy fighting started over 1 year ago, Sudan had already faced a worrying humanitarian catastrophe. Now, millions of children have been displaced, creating the world’s largest child displacement crisis. The destruction of civilian infrastructure has left many without access to clean water and basic healthcare. Additionally, the war’s socioeconomic impact has been devastating, depriving children of crucial resources and opportunities for a better future.
Crisis Poses Serious Threats to Children’s Safety
Worrying Health Conditions
The ongoing war is creating dire conditions that could lead to widespread famine and a tragic loss of children’s lives. Nearly 4 million children under five are expected to experience acute malnutrition, with 730,000 facing severe acute malnutrition, the deadliest form of undernutrition and a major threat to their survival. The conflict has severely reduced vaccination coverage, leading to outbreaks of diseases like cholera, measles, malaria, and dengue. With millions of children lacking access to safe drinking water, many are at grave risk of death.
Deteriorating Education
The conflict has wreaked havoc on education in Sudan. Since the war began, schools in most states have shut down. About 17 million children are out of school, with many educational facilities repurposed as shelters for displaced families. This prolonged disruption in education poses a significant risk, potentially causing a generational crisis in Sudan.
UNICEF’s Action
UNICEF calls for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted access in Sudan to deliver essential humanitarian aid. Despite challenges, UNICEF has provided millions of children with vital resources like safe drinking water, health supplies, and psychosocial support.
Clean Water & Food: UNICEF has helped 5.9 million people access sufficient quantity of safe water; and provided Vitamin A supplementation for more than 718000 children under 5.
Health Care: UNICEF has provided primary health care to 960000 children and women in UNICEF-supported facilities. Meanwhile, 2.6 million children under 12 months are vaccinated against measles.
Public Education: UNICEF has supported 230000 learners with access to formal and non-formal education.
