What is a Torque Converter?

A torque converter is a hydraulic coupling device situated between the engine and transmission. It connects to the engine's crankshaft via the flywheel, receiving power directly from the crankshaft. For example, when the engine runs at low speed if your loader is idling on a slope, the torque converter transmits a lower amount of torque, resulting in reduced pulling power. Because the torque converter transmits limited power at low speeds, lightly pressing the brake pedal is sufficient to keep the loader stationary.

Additionally, the torque converter can automatically adjust the turbine speed based on changes in load, enhancing the vehicle's ability to traverse difficult terrain. By using fluid to link the pump and turbine, it reduces the impact load on the drivetrain from the engine, thereby extending the life of the transmission system.

Signs of a Torque Converter Failure

Overheating
